Friends of Chernobyl's Children

Mrs Quarmby of the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children charity was delighted to receive a cheque for £544.10

During the summer term we supported the East Riding branch of the Friends of Chernobyl's Children charity. Through weekly contributions and collections made at the school productions, concert and church service, we raised £544. The charity's coordinator, Mrs Quarmby, came to receive the cheque and explain to the children how the money will enable the charity to bring children from the area around Chernobyl to the East Riding.

The children come from an area still suffering from the poisonous fallout of the Chernobyl disaster. By breathing clean air, eating uncontaminated food and receiving expert health checks, the children's short life expectancy can be extended by a few years. Next year the FOCC will bring 23 seven-year-old children to the East Riding for the first of three visits made over the next three years. St Mary's children hope to meet some of them when they come in July 2005.
