Science Week

This afternoon in St Mary’s Primary School a super science show was performed in front of year five and six.
It was enjoyed tremendously by all the pupils and teachers. It was performed by the fantastic David from Magna.
“I loved the part with the flame thrower as it looked cool. I wish we could do it at home but apparently it is unsafe.” said a year six pupil as she left the hall.
The teachers also took part, Mrs Kirby held a bag which was transformed into a hot air balloon.
The children were also  picked at random to help with various science experiments.
David was funny and made lots of jokes and stories to make it sound more interesting for the children.
“I was picked for an experiment with water.” said Josie Squire.
The show has been very popular all around the UK. Everyone was delighted for David to come  and perform in front of us.
All the year groups had a chance to witness this amazing show. They were watching at different times in the day.
Everyone hopes that David will return next year to give another brilliant show to the school.
Everyone was very happy with the things that he performed in front of them. Many of the experiments the children are aloud to do at home and they are very exited about the rockets and Newton's third law.

Dave introduces himself. Those in the front row
got wet!
Hands up if you think
it will burst.
How many skewers can
you put in the bag?

It could be dangerous in the front row. Why does some food sink and some float? Dave made a hot air balloon. It took off.

We had to defend the school from a tank attack. Dave made elephant toothpaste. Year 3 and 4 loved the show. He explained why some bottles sink and some float.

He prepared the missile. Year 5 and 6 prepared for the bang. Icing sugar can make a spectacular flame. Year 1 and 2 fill the bags with water.

Dave pokes a skewer through. The children poke more through but the water doesn't come out.

The girls are working on a hot air ballooon Ready for take off. There was lots of detailed work. We had to work together.

Trying to balance tehe clowns. This one is a success. And so is this. Accurate cutting was needed.

And it had to look good too. "What do you think of that?" More balloonists. A fine string of balancing clowns.

Science Week activities in Key Stage 1

Key Stage One had a busy time getting involved in lots of scientific activities.
Here are just a few:

Year 2 explored static electricity making little men jump onto balloons. They also explored mirrors and reflection making kaleidoscopes. Year 1 made clowns and then as if by magic made their arms and legs dance. Secretly, they used magnets behind their pictures to do this. They made lots of objects and experimented flying them. Here are some of their kites: Reception children enjoyed exploring colour and used marbling inks to produce colourful pictures.
